Dirt bike boots are an essential part of a biker’s gear

They protect your feet from scrapes and from impact in a crash. So choosing a good pair that gives ample protection is important. Dirt bike boot brands that are most popular are: Motoline, Bates Fastlane, SIDI, Gaerne, Fieldsheer, AGV and Alpinestars.

Material. Leather biker boots offer better protection than fabric boots. Leather boots protect against debris and prevent burns. Boots made of leather also protect your toes from being hurt during a quick slide down the road.

Heels. Choose a pair with stepped boot heels that will keep your feet on the bike pegs.
Clasps. Opt for a pair of boots that you can easily slip on like zippered biker boots over ones with shoelaces that might snag your foot on your motorcycle.
Length/Height. Tall knee-high boots that protects your ankles against kicked up debris; stones, exhaust pipes and what have you are better than ankle-high ones.
Soles. Boot soles that have adequate traction are a must. Composition boot soles are better than leather soles. Most motorcycle boots have oil resistant soles, but better make sure that the boots you are buying has this important feature.

Find biker boots that are lined with waterproof breathable membranes to keep your feet dry in times of rough weather. Make sure that the boots you will buy have adequate protection padding and close fitting buckles. Most importantly, make sure that your boots fit you well. Dirt riding is a rough enough sport without you having to suffer uncomfortable riding gear.

Buying a used motorbike will inevitably involve working (or reworking) on it. Learning how to work on a used motorbike will save you up on a lot of cash ? cash that you can use for a host of other things like saving up for a new dirt bike, or investing in high-end protective dirt bike gear. It makes sense to buy used dirt bike parts when working on your used motorbike, though nothing prevents you from replacing some of your bikeÂ’s parts with new bike components. You can either buy from used dirt bike part shops or from your bike buddies who want to dispose some of their dirt bikeÂ’s parts.

The following are some replacement costs if you are going to buy new parts for your dirt bike. Compare them with the cost of replacing the said bike parts with used bike components. This should help you decide whether to buy new or used parts for your dirt bike.

New, high-quality dirt bike knobby tires cost no less than $65 each.

New aftermarket dirt bike fenders (plastic) would set you back around $35 for a rear fender and $30 for a front fender.

Low-end new dirt bike handlebars cost $35 and high-end new dirt bike handlebars would go for as high as $95.

A set of new and good quality chain and sprocket costs approximately about $175.

If you happen to own a 2-stroke dirt bike, be ready to spend time working on your dirt bike. The upside of it is that while that is the case, it is easier to work on a 2-stroke dirt bike than a 4-stroke dirt bike. Working on a 4-stroke dirt bike is both difficult as well as time consuming to do. So that should be a consideration when you are in the course of buying a dirt bike, whether new or used.

Crashing is almost akin to the law of gravity in dirt riding. You cannot prepare enough for a dirt bike accident. One thing thatÂ’s doable, though, is making sure that your motorbike will survive a dirt bike crash. Here are a few tips to make your bike endure dirt bike accidents.

Make sure that your dirt bike has good parts for rough crashing. Buy extra-strong pegs, Excel rims and Talon hubs for when you jump on your dirt bike from office buildings and land on concrete. Luckily, these are available from White Brothers. Get hold of guards for your dirt bikeÂ’s calipers, master cylinders, engine cases and discs. Moose, Acerbis and White Brothers sell good guards for your dirt bikeÂ’s parts that need protection. Aluminum handlebars on your motorbike are also the best for crashing. Dirt bike parts stores like White Brothers, Renthal, Afam, Answer, Acerbis and FMF would have them.
However, new standard Japanese bikes do not have aluminum handlebars.
Fit your motorbike with a good brake snake. Your bikeÂ’s brake snake is that single strand of braided steel cable that is strung from the shift lever or brake pedal to the frame and fixed firmly by little crimp-connect fasteners that the brake snake comes with. They keep your foot controls in working condition and investing in a good one is a must for your dirt bike.

Prevent your dirt bikeÂ’s levers from snapping in the middle of a ride or a race. Loosen your motorbikeÂ’s lever brackets to allow the perch and lever to spin on the handlebar when you hit the earth. Some would even wrap a Teflon tape around the bar and crank their lever perches down tight. Sunline forges dirt bike levers and brackets and you might want to have your dirt bikeÂ’s brackets and lever done the Sunline way.
